The short version

Carveny keeps your vehicles, services, fill-ups, mileage readings, and photos on your device, and in your own iCloud if you leave sync on. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. We don't run a server, so none of your records ever reach us.

Scanning happens on your device: the camera reads the VIN, the odometer, and receipts without uploading the picture anywhere. The only time anything leaves your device is when you ask for nearby gas stations (Apple Maps performs the search), when you buy Premium (Apple handles payment), and when you choose to export or email something yourself.

Overview

This policy explains how Buknal Enterprise LLC ("we," "us") handles information in the Carveny iPhone and iPad app ("the App"). It applies only to the App, not to other apps we publish or to websites we don't operate.

Carveny has no user accounts. You don't register, and you don't give us a name, an email address, or a password to use it. We operate no server that the App talks to, we don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Your vehicle records

Everything you log is stored by the App on your device. That includes:

  • Vehicles — make, model, year, nickname, photo, VIN if you add one, license plate if you add one, and the unit you prefer for distance and fuel;
  • Service records — what was done, when, at what mileage, where, what it cost, and your notes;
  • Fill-ups — date, odometer reading, volume, price, total, and the station if you record one;
  • Mileage readings you log on their own;
  • Reminders you set, and the intervals behind them;
  • Attachments — photos and receipt images you add to an entry;
  • Preferences, such as units, filters, and whether you have finished onboarding.

A VIN and a license plate identify a vehicle, and can be linked back to its owner by someone who holds the right records. Carveny treats them as yours: they are stored like everything else in the App, they are optional, and we never receive them.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, the App syncs your records across your own devices using Apple's CloudKit, into the private area of your iCloud account. Your records are stored under your Apple Account, not ours. We have no access to that data and no way to read, recover, or restore it for you.

Apple handles that storage under the Apple Privacy Policy. You can stop the App from syncing at any time in Settings → [your name] → iCloud, and you can delete what it has stored there from the same place. Turning sync off leaves your records on each device as they were.

Camera and scanning

The App asks for camera access so you can scan instead of type. It uses the camera to read:

  • a VIN, from the plate, door jamb sticker, or barcode;
  • an odometer reading;
  • a gas receipt or pump display.

All of this is processed on your device, by the text recognition built into iOS. The camera preview is not recorded, and the picture is not uploaded to us or to anyone else. What you keep is the number or text the App read, which you can correct before saving, plus the photo itself if you choose to attach it.

You can decline camera access and still use every part of the App by typing the values instead. Permission can be changed at any time in Settings → Carveny.

Apple Intelligence

On devices that support Apple Intelligence, the App can use Apple's on-device model to make better sense of a scanned receipt — picking out the gallons, the price per gallon, and the total from the surrounding text. This model runs on your device. The receipt is not sent to Apple, to us, or to any other company, and the App does not use ChatGPT or any other third-party AI service.

On devices without Apple Intelligence, the App falls back to plain on-device text recognition, and you may need to correct or complete a few more fields by hand.

Photos and receipts you attach

You can attach a photo to a vehicle or to any entry, either by taking one or by choosing one from your photo library. iOS shows you its own picker, and the App receives only the images you pick — it does not get access to the rest of your library unless you grant it.

Attached images are stored with the entry, on your device and in your iCloud if sync is on, along with whatever metadata the image already carries, which can include the place and time the photo was taken. They are never uploaded to us. Delete an attachment or its entry in the App to remove it.

Location and nearby stations

When you are logging a fill-up, you can ask the App to suggest gas stations near you. If you do, it requests your location while you are using the App and asks Apple Maps for stations nearby. Apple receives that search and processes it under the Apple Privacy Policy. We don't receive your location, and the App has no background location access, no tracking, and no geofencing.

The station name you pick is saved with the fill-up. Your coordinates are not. Location is entirely optional: decline the prompt and the App still works — you simply type the station name, or leave it blank. Permission can be changed at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Carveny.

Reminders and notifications

Service reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS. There is no push server, so nothing about your vehicles, your mileage, or what is due is sent anywhere in order to notify you. If you decline notification permission, reminders still appear inside the App; they simply won't alert you.

Widgets, Siri, and Shortcuts

The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read the same records already on your device, so what is due next can appear on your Lock Screen. Consider that when deciding what to put in a vehicle's nickname.

Logging gas with Siri or the Shortcuts app uses Apple's App Intents system. Apple handles what you say or type and passes the result to the App; we never receive it. Anything you log that way is stored exactly like an entry you create by hand. If you add a Carveny action to one of your own shortcuts, that shortcut can pass data elsewhere, and that is under your control, not ours.

Exports and sharing

You can export a PDF report or a CSV file of a vehicle's history. The file is created on your device and handed to the standard iOS share sheet, so you decide where it goes — Files, Mail, Messages, a cloud drive, a printer, a buyer, or a mechanic. It is not sent to us, and we don't see it.

Remember that an export is a readable copy of your records. A full history can include the VIN, the plate, where you had work done, and where you buy gas. Once you send it to someone, this policy no longer governs what they do with it.

What we don't collect

The App contains no analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising software, and it doesn't use tracking identifiers. Specifically, the App does not collect or request:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts;
  • Background or continuous location, or any trip or driving tracking;
  • Usage statistics about which features you use;
  • Device identifiers for tracking you across apps or websites;
  • Any connection to your car itself — the App has no OBD-II, Bluetooth, or telematics link, and reads nothing from your vehicle.

Apple separately lets you share crash and usage reports with app developers under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. If you turn that on, Apple may provide us aggregated, anonymous crash reports. You can turn it off at any time.

Premium purchase

Carveny is free to download and offers an optional one-time Premium purchase. Payment is processed entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. To confirm that Premium is unlocked, the App asks Apple's StoreKit for your purchase record on the device. We receive only anonymized sales reports from Apple, and we never see your name, card number, billing address, or Apple Account details.

Contacting support

If you tap Contact Support, the App opens a draft email in your mail app addressed to [email protected]. The draft includes the App version and build, your iOS version, and your device model, to help us troubleshoot. Nothing is sent until you choose to send it, and you can edit or delete any of that information first.

When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to fix problems you report, and we don't add you to any mailing list. Please don't send us a VIN, a plate number, or a full export unless we ask and you are comfortable doing so — we almost never need them to help.

Apple services

The App is distributed through the App Store. Purchases and refunds, iCloud sync, Siri and Shortcuts, notifications, and the nearby-station search are all handled by Apple, which processes that information under the Apple Privacy Policy. The App uses no other third-party services, and there is no analytics, advertising, or AI provider behind it.

Deleting your data

Because your information lives on your device and in your own iCloud, you control it directly:

  • Delete an entry, an attachment, or a whole vehicle inside the App.
  • Delete the App to remove everything it stored on that device.
  • If sync is on, deleting the App does not clear iCloud. Remove the App's data under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
  • Your Premium purchase stays with your Apple Account, so reinstalling and tapping Restore unlocks it again.

We hold no copy of any of it, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing we can restore. Export a PDF or CSV first if you want to keep your history. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it; ask us and we'll delete your correspondence.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing, under laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the UK, and the CCPA/CPRA in California.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by these laws. Because the App sends us nothing, the only personal information we might hold is a support email you sent. Write to us and we'll respond within the time the applicable law requires.

Children's privacy

Carveny is a tool for vehicle owners and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Information stored by the App is protected by iOS and by your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Data synced through iCloud is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and you can strengthen it further by turning on Apple's Advanced Data Protection. Purchases are verified through Apple's signed StoreKit transactions. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. If a future version begins collecting any information, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version is released. The revised policy takes effect when posted on this page, with a new "Last updated" date above.
